Marlins recent successes

March Marlins have been very busy recently.
5 March Marlins Masters swimmers competed at the European Masters Open Meet which was held at the London Olympic pool . Martyn Fresher, Richard O'Leary, Garry Mavin, Ross Wisby and Sonia Ledger all competed and broke 2 regional records in the relays they entered.
At the end of May Marlins held the Fenland Open Meet at Whittlesey which attracted over 200 swimmers from the region. Charlotte Shaw, Graham Shaw (not related), Danielle and Jessica Rayner all won their age groups.
At the East Regionals in Norwich Jessica Shaw qualified for the 50m, 100m and 200m butterfly and came 3rd in her age group in the 100m event. Also Elliotte Ledger competed in the 100m breaststroke and 100m backstroke.
At the Cambs Development Champs 15 Marlins swimmers between them won 42 top 3 placing medals.
At the beginning of July Marlins swam to second place in the Senior Fenland League against strong opposition to be rewarded a place in the A final in September.
Last weekend 6 Marlins swimmers competed in the East Region Open Water championships at Whitlingham Lake near Norwich, The day started with Molly McGowen swimming 3000m and coming 3rd in the county, next up was Jessica Shaw in the 800m at her first open water finishing 5th in the county. Then it was the turn of Tilly Carter-Kitchingman, Gemma McGowen and Nat Cook swimming in the 1500m, Tilly came 6th, Gemma 5th and Nat 5th. To finish the day Ross Wisby swam in the 5000m event and came 1st in the county and region.
On Saturday Ross Wisby travelled down to Rother Valley to compete in the ASA National Masters Open Water Championships. He swam the 3000m event and came 2nd overall in his age group. Last year Ross became a World Record Holder by swimming 45 miles around the island of Jersey in an unbelievable time of 9 hours 26 mins.
