New Aquatic Helpers and Level 2 Teacher for Marlins
10-11-2014 11:10 by Mark McGowen
On Sunday 7 Marlins swimmers gave up their freetime to attend an Aquatic Helpers course that was tutored by Head Coach Jo Pearce. This course is for those that wish to actively assist on poolside at the swimming club and help the younger swimmers in the club. The workshop consisted of 3 hours of theory and 3 hours practical work. At the end of the course they were able to demonstrate how to use the equipment required, the importance of Health and Safety in the pool environment and lastly to share their knowledge, demonstrate good behaviour and establish expectations of the group.
The group of helpers were Cara Fresher, Katie McGowen, Ashleigh Lavender, Gemma McGowen, Jacob Halls, Graham Shaw and Nat Cook.
Also on Sunday, Will Shaw completed his level 2 teachers course. Will has spent the last 4 weekends travelling to the Cambridge pool and spending many evenings revising to pass his Level 2 teaching.
Without volunteers like Will and the Aquatic helpers the club would struggle to run, which turned 50 this year, for the benefit of the local people.
March Marlins are holding their AGM on Tuesday 25th November,7pm at the Cricket club on Burrowmoor Rd. A number of our committee members are stepping down this year after helping out over the years and we would like to say a big thank you for devoting their time to help run this club. We now need new volunteers to continue to run this club. We are always looking for volunteers to help on poolside however there are also plenty of jobs that need to be filled that are behind the scenes and can be done in your spare time. We are mostly parents with our child attending the pool sessions and with full time jobs but if you can spare some time to help Marlins every little helps. A lot of these jobs can be shared between people so it makes it easier on everyone. Please help your child enjoy their swimming by coming along to the AGM and become part of March Marlins like them.
