Richard Shaw Memorial Gala

March Marlins held the annual Richard Shaw Memorial Gala on Saturday 13th October.  Five teams took part, from Ely, Chatteris, Huntingdon and Peterborough.  Special guest was Paul Hodges who was Richard's football coach.

Richard’s younger brother, Graham, competed in  races on the night, gaining 1st place as part of the 4x25m Medley Relay, 3rd 50m Butterfly, 4th 50m Butterfly, 3rd 4x25m Freestyle Relay, 50m Freestyle and 3rd 50m Medley Relay.

1st places on the night; 4x25m Relay, Marc Johnson, Martyn Fresher, Graham Fidler & Graham Shaw; Nat Cook 50m Freestyle; Chloe Richardson 50m Backstroke; Martyn Fresher 50 Backstroke and Jacob Halls 50m Breaststroke.

2nd places on the night; Gemma McGowen 50m Butterfly; Marc Johnson 50m Backstroke; Nat Cook 50m Butterfly; Amelia Wallis 50m Backstroke; Eleanor Hayes 50m Breaststroke; Emily Morris 50m Butterfly; Daniela Sarkovica 50m Breaststroke and Chloe Richardson 50m Freestyle.

3rd places on the night; Richard Peterson 50m Breaststroke; Marie Doherty 50m Breaststroke; 4x25m Freestyle Relay, Nat Cook, Alfie McIntyre, Jacob Halls & Graham Shaw; 4x25m Freestyle Relay, Katerina Caikovska, Katie McGowen, Daniela Sarkovica, Chloe Richardson; Katerina Caikovska 50m Freestyle and Jacob Halls 50m Backstroke.

Other swimmers on the night were; Cara Fresher and Sydney Davis.  Lydia Gray, who produced 2 superb swims in 50m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly, winning both events but beating the cut off times set on the night.  This also applied to Graham Shaw and Graham Fidler.

It was an enjoyable event, well attended with all teams gaining individual commemorative medals.

Well done to Huntingdon who won the trophy.

Next event for the Marlins is the JFL Final, held at March on Saturday 20th October.
